Western Maine Yurts is a small, locally owned and operated business. Our owner, Alex Poland, can be found on site doing anything from property maintenance to cleaning. He dreamed up the vision for Western Maine Yurts and personally designed and built the property from the ground up; from excavation and site work to raising the yurts and furnishing the interiors. When he isn’t working he enjoys spending time with his wife, teen daughter, pre-teen son, and two gigantic Great Danes. He’s a hobby farmer, and has a passion for fishing and exploring the rivers of Western Maine. After all of that you wouldn’t think there was anymore free time to fill, but he also enjoys creating art inspired by his fishing adventures.
Derick Poland is Alex’s cousin and right-hand man. He handles our property management, maintenance, and basically anything and everything that needs to be done! He lives nearby with his wife, new baby, and golden-doodle. He enjoys the outdoor activities Western Maine offers, from hunting and fishing to foraging for edible plants. He has many years of mechanic experience and still works on motorcycles and trucks for fun. He also has a creative outlet and makes some really cool chainsaw carvings!
Tricia Young grew up with Alex and is a life long family friend. She manages our website and online presence and is usually the one connecting with you during your booking process. She also takes care of the finances and helps with housekeeping. She and her Bethel born husband have three young children and a little French bulldog that all regularly tag along to “help” take care of the yurts. She’s an animal lover with a couple spoiled cats and a dozen chickens. She also loves gardening. As a family they enjoy easy hikes, mountain biking, and relaxing in nature.
Our little team hopes to offer you a great place to unwind and connect with family and friends, or crash after a busy day of exploring the great outdoors. Please let us know if you need anything during your stay. We hope you have a fantastic time!
